Clinically curious
Asks why a condition developed in this patient, and keeps asking until the picture makes sense.
IIFM, the Institute for Integrated and Functional Medicine, educates healthcare professionals worldwide in Integrated Functional Medicine: a systems based, evidence aware and patient centred approach to chronic disease.
Chronic conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disease, gut disorders and autoimmunity rarely have a single cause, yet most clinical training teaches practitioners to manage them one system and one symptom at a time. The picture is more complex still because, in every region, many patients draw on several kinds of care at once.
IIFM exists to train practitioners who can hold that complexity: who can trace a presentation to its underlying drivers, draw on clinical nutrition, lifestyle medicine and allied health, understand the other approaches their patients use, and bring it together into one plan that is safe, honest about evidence and practical to follow.
To educate healthcare professionals worldwide to understand, evaluate, integrate and coordinate care across the full landscape of healthcare, using the systems method of functional medicine and an honest standard of evidence.
Healthcare in which every practitioner can see the whole patient, including every kind of care they receive, and coordinate it safely for better outcomes.
IIFM teaches functional medicine as a framework that works alongside conventional diagnosis and treatment, never as a replacement for it.
Every perspective enters through one clinical method and is labelled by its evidence. How integration works
Food and nutrient status influence nearly every system in the matrix, so clinical nutrition is taught as a core clinical skill.
Teaching is built around cases, so knowledge ends in a decision a practitioner can make with their next patient.
IIFM serves practitioners across countries, healthcare systems and professional backgrounds. Programs are delivered online, and teaching is written for an international audience.
Where regulation, scope of practice, terminology, laboratory reference ranges or clinical guidelines differ between countries, IIFM says so explicitly rather than assuming one country's system applies everywhere. Practitioners are always taught to work within the licence they hold where they practise.

Knows the difference between established evidence, emerging findings and tradition, and says so to patients.
Works across professions and systems of care, knows their scope, and refers without hesitation.
